PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodian authorities over alleged financial misconduct by the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor claims that the actions of Yamada, a Japanese national, have caused significant financial losses and calls for a full investigation.
In letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice, the investor alleges that Yamada inflated real estate purchase prices in Cambodia, resulting in a preliminary estimated loss of around $4 million. The letters further accuse him of orchestrating fictitious business deals, including loans totaling over $7 million, and diverting funds through shell companies tied to him and his associates. Some of the misappropriated funds are said to have been transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The letters also detail claims that Yamada established shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, using nominees while retaining direct control over related bank accounts and financial operations.
Within Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed criminal charges in at least two cases involving Yamada and others, with court orders freezing assets and bank accounts. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities in several other countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are examining allegations of embezzlement, breach of trust, document forgery, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian courts and authorities to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation, warning that potential interference could allow suspects to avoid accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
At this time, neither YY Capital nor Yamada Taihei has publicly responded to the allegations.
